SAT阅读目的题方法解读

SAT阅读中目的题比较让人头疼，原因又两点：第一，较多的目的题涉及的原文篇幅较大，一个段落的目的(OG-test 1-passage1 Question 7)，甚至是一篇文章的目的(OG-test 1-passage4-question1);第二，目的题通常会和相关原文的内容与位置-也就是上下文有关;针对这两点，我们能够找到目的题解题方法的着手点：从涉及原文篇幅长短来分类说明。
第一种：整体性目的题-整篇文章的目的-OG-test 1-passage4-question32-pg343
32. The main purpose of the passage is to
A)emphasize the value of a tradition.
B)stress the urgency of an issue.
C)highlight the severity of social divisions.
D)question the feasibility of an undertaking.
整篇文章的目的题一般是和文章的主旨有关，也就是说我们遇整体性的题目都读完整篇文章也就是放到最后去做;
这篇文章属于演讲文体，通常开篇点题;通过这篇文章的结构：只有两段-line1-11为第一段，line12-80为第二段;这样来看主旨也应该在第一段!以下是第一段：
Close at hand is a bridge over the River Thames, an admirable vantage ground for us to make a survey. The river flows beneath; barges pass, laden with timber, bursting with corn; there on one side are the domes and spires of the city; on the other, Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. It is a place to stand on by the hour, dreaming. But not now. Now we are pressed for time. Now we are here to consider facts; now we must fix our eyes upon the procession—the procession of the sons of educated men.
通读第一段：Close...dreaming通过场景描述引入话题;But..educated men三个以now开头的排比句点名主旨;所以32题对应的目的题正确选项为B。
第二种：段落目的题-通常和文段内容和所处位置相关;OG-test 1-passage1-Question7-pg336
7.The main purpose of the first paragraph is to
A)describe a culture.
B)criticize a tradition.
C)question a suggestion.
D)analyze a reaction.
Akira came directly, breaking all tradition. Was that it? Had he followed form—had he asked his mother to speak to his father to approach a go-between—would Chie have been more receptive?
文段内容中第一句简述事件，后面用两个虚拟反问引起读者兴趣，为后文事件发展结果(Chie不能接受)做铺垫!反问的作用在于强调所得出的答案;所以作者想强调Chie对Akira直接拜访而没有找媒婆(go-between)的不接受反应。所以本题通过相关文段使用反问强调的内容和所处的第一段开篇的位置确定答案为D。
第三种：句子的目的;一个句子和作用和段落的作用大同小异;OG-test2-passage1-Question2-pg453
2.The main purpose of the opening sentence of the passage is to

B)provide context useful in understanding the narrator’s emotional state.

No man likes to acknowledge that he has made a mistake in the choice of his profession, and every man, worthy of the name, will row long against wind and tide before he allows himself to cry out, “I am baffled!” and submits to be floated passively back to land. From the first week of my residence in X—— I felt my occupation irksome.
开篇第一句话就说明人人都不喜欢的一种状况，说完紧接着第二句话就开始说明‘I’的职业令人厌烦;通过前后两句话的表达情感类似，和从一般状况都个体状况的过程来看，正确答案就是B。
SAT的目的题大体来看就是和相关文段的内容和在文中所处的上下文关系来确定的;其中相关文段的内容分析有时候会涉及修辞手法的分析;上下文关系又可以大体分为：前文为后文做铺垫和后文例证前文两种。
